LITERATURE: Five Free Books as Christmas Presents
By Jorge Jefferds December 13,
2014
Christmas is a moment, when
everybody maddens buying presents, spoiling their credit cards and bank
accounts to satisfy the holiday spending. The market, however, is also open
with a diversity of items at no charge consumers don’t need to pay for. In
literature, for example, the offer of free eBooks is plausible. Amazon, Barnes
and Noble, and Lulu are in the race to promote titles with this initiative.
Here are five books you can
obtain to read this Christmas, whether in your latest tablet, Nook, Kindle, or
even in your computer.
Long Time Coming (Edie
Claire)
Published in 2003 by Warner Books (Warner Forever).
Eighteen years have passed since Joy's childhood best friend, Jenny, met her death in a tragic car accident just a few days after their senior prom. A broken Joy left their small Kentucky hometown shortly after--determined never to come back. But when her father's illness forces her to return, she realizes that neither time nor distance have truly healed her troubled soul.
Plagued with nightmares of the accident and crippled by a vague fear whose source she can't identify, Joy realizes that in order to move on she must face the truth behind several disturbing gaps in her memory of that fateful spring. But the only person who can help her is a man she despises--Jenny's erstwhile boyfriend Jeff, now a respected doctor, whose carelessness as a teenager was the cause of Jenny's horrendous death--and Joy's own emotional destruction. Can she ever forgive? She may have no choice but to try. Because both the danger she sensed--and the childhood friendship she treasured--now suddenly seem very much alive...
A Little of Everything for Dummies (John Wiley and Sons)
Published on November 16, 2011
Twenty years ago the very first For Dummies book, DOS for Dummies,
was published. From that first printing of that first book, came a series
unlike anything in the publishing world, one that is global in both geography -
we have been published worldwide in some 30 languages - and in coverage. No
single volume can hope to summarize what thousands of titles have meant to
millions of readers over the years, and we don't claim to do that in this
e-book. Rather, this e-book celebrates the breadth and depth of the For
Dummies series, offering 20 chapters - in honor of our 20 years - from a
list of books compiled by our global colleagues. We are confident the chapters
we've included give you a representative glimpse at why - no matter what the
topic - our products have meant so much to so many by Making Everything Easier.

Published in June, 2014
Paradise-Ville is a town like many others. The
residents know each other, are somewhat related, and struggle to revive their
past bringing prosperity through amazing tourist attractions. The curse of
their lives will turn, however, to a dramatic endless nightmare. The
disappearance of their children and unexpected killings bring questions nobody
can answer. Suspicions fly towards themselves, but with little evidence. Tom
Gessling is a teenager, whose family is one of the former pioneers in setting
the town foundations. His dreams of the victims telling him where they are and
who killed them encourage him to provide help. Is he really going to succeed
the police and the FBI as the hero, who will finally discover their
whereabouts?
