RESTAURANT DESTINATION: Sequoia – Dining by the
Nile
The water body that has embraced the Nile since
the very beginning seems peaceful from the restaurant. Believing in the
journeys pharaohs performed inland and also to the Mediterranean Sea is hard,
especially when our dinner at Sequoia is ready.
With its laid back atmosphere, Sequoia is the
ultimate dining concept. The decoration formed by wood paneled flooring,
couches & stuffed chairs, low wooden tables, draped canopies and soft
light, has created an irreplaceable ambiance. The sole atmosphere and simplistic
elegance make the restaurant a place where one can truly enjoy a good afternoon
and many endless nights overlooking the eternal Nile.

present their favorite selection of fusion Mediterranean cuisine originating in
Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Turkey, Greece, and Italy.

Located on a peninsula that stretches over an
area of 400 meters, Sequoia surrounds a view of the Nile from all angles. The
venue occupies the Northern tip of Zamalek, the main island in the Nile, lying
in the heart of Cairo between Downtown and Giza. The Zamalek district is a
thriving center for middle and upper class Egyptians, along with foreign dignitaries,
thus making it Cairo’s most fashionable residential and commercial district.
The menu is pretty much standard oriental fare.
It’s broken down into cold and hot mezzes, grills and other main courses. If
you plan to order mezzes, it’s advisable to share, since the quantities are not
exactly the most fulfilling, but buy sharing; in fact, you’ll get a more
communal experience and be more satisfied.
One thing well worth pointing out is the shisha
choices you have. There is actually a wide range of shisha flavors. The waiter
brings over a tray laden with small samples of what’s on offer. You can smell
each concoction which vary from the traditional to the unconventional, and then
decide. The shisha is extremely delightful.
In the end, they have a relaxing buzz, where you
can make a great accompaniment for conversation, a cup of tea or even much
more.
