HEALTH AND FITNESS: Mesothelioma-Lung Cancer in the Lawsuits

HEALTH AND FITNESS: Mesothelioma-Lung Cancer in the Lawsuits.
By Jorge Jefferds September 19, 2014
Lung cancer has been a very common disease in the latest decades. On average, 200,000 people get this diagnosis in the United States a year.

About 159,000 patients died due to the catastrophic consequences.
Since a couple of years ago, we have heard in the media people talking about mesothelioma and how asbestos has influenced in the development of tumors in the lungs.

Many of us, however, do not understand the announcements clearly. Patients struggle to survive litigations against the companies, where they exposed their lives to the aforementioned poisoned mineral.  In the end, mesothelioma has become a lucrative business for lawyers and courthouses, even though we are not familiar with this uncommon form of cancer.

Mesothelioma is a lung cancer that affects primarily the mesothelium-a protective membrane. This organ lines the chest cavity, other inner body parts, and produces a fluid. This way, it lubricates them and causes their easy movement.

Researchers found one main cause of the fatal condition-exposure to asbestos. Workers, who are exposed to asbestos, have up to a 10% lifetime risk of developing the disease, with an average latency of 30 years. Risk is independent of smoking.

In spite that manufacturers stopped implementing the use of asbestos, new cases continue to arise. High affected professions are construction, factory workers, shipyard employees, some miners, and mechanics. Suffice it to say that the workers’ direct family members can also develop mesothelioma from asbestos fibers carried home in their clothing.

Mesothelioma is somewhat an occupational disease brought to our homes.

Several companies have gone bankrupt by providing source of recovery for moral, and health damages in asbestos litigations. We shouldn’t quit filing lawsuits if our lives are in danger, because of those millions dollars manufacturers make with our lungs.

FOOD: Easy Coffee Shakes Recipes You Can Make at Home

Easy Coffee Shakes Recipes You Can Make at Home
By JorgeJefferds September 16, 2014
Even though, summer is over, children are going back to school and you are starting your daily routines again, coffee is always there. Yes, those millenarian ground roasted beams provide the best moment ever with the pleasant mix of their scents and beverage. These Coffee Shakes Recipes will enhance your caffeine experience.
Cappuccino Shake
This drink is a blended-coffee treat you can buy anywhere, but this time you are preparing it in the comfort of your house. In fact, you can make it non-dairy using soy milk. You will need 1 teaspoon instant granulated coffee, ¾ cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 teaspoons white sugar, or to taste, 6 ice cubes, and 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup (or caramel syrup, whichever your option).
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Mocha Liqueur Shake
This cold shot will not give you and your boss a hard time at work or embarrassing moments in the house, if you don’t work. You can try this, however, as an after-dinner drink or for a cool refreshing afternoon cocktail. The ingredients are ¾ cup light rum, ¼ cup cold coffee, 1 pint vanilla ice cream, 4 cubes ice, whip cream and sprinkles of dark chocolate for toppings.
In a blender, combine rum, cold coffee and ice cream. Insert ice cubes until volume reaches at least five cups. Blend until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses, decorate with the toppings, and serve.
Colt de Mont
In Christmas, this drink is popular in several countries from South America, mainly in Chile, Argentina and Colombia. The potion brings us memories of our traditional "Egg Nog", except that coffee is the principal taste.
For ingredients, you have to consider 1 can condensed milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3 cinnamon sticks, 3 teaspoons instant coffee, and 1 cup dry tequila.
Mix condensed milk, 2 ½ cups water, vanilla extract and cinnamon sticks in a saucepan. Put to boil for about 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once bubbles appear on top of the preparation, immediately set aside, drain, and add coffee dissolved in water. Place over medium heat for some extra minutes. Finally, leave to cool before mixing with tequila. Pour into sterilized bottles or large jars and seal straight away. Serve on special moments with friends, relatives and loved ones.

TRAVEL: American Amazing Wildlife-Sinnemahoning State Park, PA

Amazing American Wildlife – Sinnemahoning State Park, PA
By JorgeJefferds September 15, 2014

With the summer dramatically gone and the fall over our shoulders, National Parks start to reduce the visit hours. The administrations lock up swimming pools, sport courts and almost any particular recreation areas.

The new season, however, brings other ways to enjoy the nature in these wonderful places. While fauna continues to get closer to humans, flora turns to so different colors and textures.

One of the reservations, which always keeps us surprised with such seasonal changes, is the Sinnemahoning State Park.

Located 35 miles south from the junction of PA 872 with US Route 6 in Coudersport, PA, this natural wonder has picturesque views. The surrounding mountains and deep valleys form the playground for an abundance of wildlife, including bald eagles, elk, and many birds and butterflies.
From a birds-eye view, Sinnemahoning sits on a high plateau. This area was carved from the melt waters of glaciers that massively eroded layers of sandstone and shale, hence the deep valleys. In the fall, the foliage reaches its peak as the reds, oranges and yellows are revealed in the leaves of the deciduous forests.
Sinnemahoning is derived from an American Indian word meaning ‘Rocky Lick.’ This natural salt lick is reputed to be near the mouth of Grove Run, a stream that flows through the nearby town of Sinnemahoning.
Watch for the annual migration of bald eagles as they rest and feed on the lake before trekking to their winter grounds. Have a look at the small congregations of monarch butterflies in October as they prepare for their long migration to South America.
Fall is also the rut or breeding season for elk. They are mainly grazers preferring to feed on forbs, legumes and grasses, but will browse on trees and shrubs when adequate ground vegetation is not available.
A visit to the George B. Stevenson Dam is a plus. Originally known as the First Fork Dam, later was renamed in honor of Clinton County Senator George B. Stevenson, who promoted the drive for legislation authorizing the project. The initiative reduces downstream flooding in the Susquehanna River Basin. The completion dates back to December of 1955.
